Benedict Cumberbatch has found himself a companion in his search for “The Lost City of Z,” with Screen Daily reporting Robert Pattinson has now joined his fellow Brit in the James Gray film.
Formerly a Brad Pitt starring vehicle (now he’ll only produce via his Plan B Productions), now Cumberbatch is set to play Percy Fawcett, a British explorer who disappeared into the jungles of South American in 1925 on a quest to recover the lost city of El Dorado, the legendary City of Gold, an ancient society that had mysteriously vanished which has fascinated explorers for centuries. Naturally, journeying into the woods with his son and a friend, Fawcett and company were never seen or heard from again. It’s unclear who Pattinson will play, as certainly he wouldn’t work as Fawcett’s son. Filming is scheduled for 2014
Pattinson, of sparkly vampire “Twilight” fame in case you were living under a rock, recently wrapped David Cronenberg’s “Maps to the Stars” opposite Mia Wasikowska, a reunion for the actor and director after they made last year’s “Cosmopolis” together. He’s also attached to Werner Herzog’s “Queen of the Desert,” Iraq War drama “Mission: Blacklist” and Anton Corbijn’s “Life” opposite Dane DeHaan.
