She may have landed a lead role in a major studio production, but Anna Kendrick is still firmly grounded in her indie roots. She’s joined the cast of currently-filming zombie comedy “Life After Beth”, according to Deadline. Dane DeHaan and Aubrey Plaza star, while John C. Reilly, Paul Reiser, Molly Shannon and Cheryl Hines round out the cast of the film written and directed by “I Heart Huckabees” scribe Jeff Baena.
DeHaan plays a young man who struggles – against all odds – to keep a relationship going with his girlfriend (Plaza) even after she’s killed and then resurrected as a zombie. Reiser will play DeHaan’s dad, while Reilly will play Plaza’s. Plaza and Reilly have been attached to the film since late 2012, but things finally got off the ground and “Life After Beth” is now filming in Los Angeles.
Kendrick broke out in 2009 when she scored an Oscar nomination for Jason Reitman drama “Up in the Air” opposite George Clooney, and is also known for her scene-stealing turns as Jessica in the “Twilight” series. Last year she headlined surprise musical hit “Pitch Perfect” and has been on something of a musical streak since, currently wrapping up filming “The Last Five Years” opposite Broadway star Jeremy Jordan and recently landing the role of Cinderella in Rob Marshall’s adaptation of Sondheim musical “Into the Woods” opposite Emily Blunt and Meryl Streep.
